Attended Gateway Technical Institute 1970-72. graduated with an FAA Airframe & Powerplant license. Went to Parks College of St. Louis University from 1972-75, graduated with a BS in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. From 1975-77 work for ACF industries in Milton PA in the Plant Engineering Dept helping building railroad tanker and hopper cars.

1977-2015 USAF civilian program manager at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton Ohio. Worked electronic warfare systems, tactical & strategic reconnaissance aircraft, special operations aircraft, Israeli F-15 upgrades, DOD software development, managing support of the DOD supercomputer center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and finally Foreign Military Sales of remotely piloted aircraft. Directly involved in F-4E, RF-4C, F-16, Dassault-Breguet Atlantique 2 Peace Peek, RC-135U Combat Sent, RC-135V/W Rivet Joint, U-2R, EF-111A, F-15I, MC-130H Combat Talon II, HH-60, MQ-1 Predator, and MQ-9 Reaper aircraft. Also involved with EC-130H Compass Call, RC-130s, SR-71, AC-130U, and HH-53 aircraft. Managed Foreign Military Sales to Netherlands, Germany, Israel, and Turkey at Wright-Patt AFB.

During the 1980's involved in whitewater canoeing and kayaking many of the rivers in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, North/South Carolina, and Georgia. Prepared to kayak the Grand Canyon but our permit was cancelled due to high water on the Colorado River. Paddling much curtailed after arrival of our children.

Retired to a secluded 133 acre farm in southern Ohio 80 miles from Cincinnati, 70 miles from Dayton, and 10 miles from the Ohio River. It has 66 acres tillable, 40 acres of woods, 1/2 acre 20 foot deep pond, the remainder is in brush filled old pastures. I rent out the tillable acres but plant food plots for deer, turkey, and grouse in the old pastures.

Currently involved in competitive tactical pistol and carbine shooting. I am a NRA instructor and Range Safety Officer.

Member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary assisting in maritime safety on the Ohio River and southern Ohio lakes.

And most importantly, babysitter to my grandchildren.

James J. Long, 29, of Antioch, formerly of Waukegan, died Friday, Oct. 9 as a result of an auto accident. He was born Jan. 1, 1952 in Waukegan and had lived in Waukegan most of his life until moving to Antioch one year ago. Long was employed at the Commonwealth Edison

Congrats on your service. I spent 37 years as a USAF civilian at WPAFB. I had a friend doing the same thing you are doing, he always said he was homeless but visited all the states and spent a lot of time volunteering at national parks and monuments.
